Porpoise Weekly Updates & Pre-Meet Information for Tuesday, June 23rd
Hello Porpoises!
I'm going to start with a few team updates and then move into the pre-meet information for our first home meet on Tuesday, June 16.
General Team Updates
Backstroke Clinic
MOR Coach Patrick will be conducting a free backstroke clinic during morning practice on Wednesday, June 24. If you're interested, please RSVP in SwimTopia. This clinic is free and open to all Porpoises. This clinic replaces the traditional morning practice on Wednesday, June 24.
Cary City Meet
Cary City Meet – Saturday, July 11
See email from Monday, June 22nd, for detailed information. The deadline to sign up for this meet is Monday, June 29, at 8:00 PM.
If you are interested in attending this meet, please submit this form: https://forms.gle/nR3SMVvNxUcHEXKE6
Starter Needed
We're still looking for an additional starter to train this season. Training is available, and a loud, confident voice is definitely a plus (you'll have a microphone!).
Tuesday's Home Meet vs. Park at West Lake Stingrays
Here's what you need to know for this week's home meet.
Parking
When the parking lots fill up, parking is available on the pool side of Park Village Drive only. Please do not park on the opposite side of the street so emergency vehicles can pass through easily. "No Parking" signs will be posted as reminders. If you live nearby, walking is encouraged.
Arrival
Swimmers should arrive by 4:45 PM and check in at the RED Swimmer Check-In Tent. Warm-ups will begin promptly at 5:00 PM.
Volunteer check-in will be under the gazebo.
Theme Night
Tuesday's theme is Colors by Group Night! We are asking all age groups to wear the following assigned color for the swim meet:
6 & Under - Green
7/8 - Blue
9/10 - Red
11/12 - White
13/14 - Gray
15/18 - Black
Meet End Time
Due to limited lighting on our pool deck, all home meets this season must conclude by 9:00 PM.
Our goal is to complete all main events before that time. Depending on participation levels and meet pace, exhibition heats (typically butterfly) may need to be eliminated. The TSA representatives will monitor timing throughout the evening and make adjustments if necessary.
We'll be moving quickly, so please make sure your swimmer knows who their kid pusher is and doesn't wander too far away.
Concessions
Concessions will be open and serving pizza, hot dogs, snacks, drinks, ice cream, snow cones, and more. Cash and Venmo accepted. All proceeds are reinvested back into the team.
Parent Relays
If you're interested in swimming in a parent relay, please reach out to Coach Malie at [email protected].
DJ Requests
Want to hear a favorite song or submit a joke? Submit your request here: https://forms.gle/
All songs and jokes must be appropriate for all ages.
Special Guests
Porpoises Give Back
Weather permitting, Laura Hasenauer from DDE will be selling gently used children's books on the back deck.
Before teaching at DDE, Laura taught in Uganda and remains connected to an organization that supports families living in the slums of Kampala. Her fundraising efforts help cover school fees and keep children in school. The organization is called Pendeza, which means love in Swahili. Learn more here: https://www.pendeza.org/
TAC Titans Swimming
Coach Eddie and Coach Jorge from the Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) will be on deck to answer questions about TAC's year-round swimming programs. TAC offers options for a variety of commitment levels, including programs that practice as little as two days per week. If you're interested in learning more about year-round swimming opportunities, be sure to stop by and chat with them.
If Something Comes Up
As you've probably noticed by now, a lot of work goes into putting together a swim meet.
If your swimmer can no longer attend, please email me ([email protected]) or Coach Evan ([email protected]) as soon as possible, preferably before NOON on Tuesday, so we can adjust relays, lane assignments, and printed materials. Likewise, if you're scheduled to volunteer and can no longer work, please let me ([email protected]) know immediately so we can find a replacement.
Swimmers who have not checked in by 5:30 PM will be scratched from the meet unless we've heard from you beforehand. Please note that Coach Evan and I will both be monitoring email, but we may not have time to respond during the busy 5:00–6:00 PM hour. Don't worry if you don't receive an immediate reply.
Please plan to stay for all of your swimmer's events unless prior arrangements have been made with the coaches. All remaining meets this season should conclude by 9:00 PM.
Hoping for clear skies on Tuesday!
See you then,
Kara
