Cary CIty Meet July 12 - Interest and Declaration
Cary City Meet Interest Letter -
Let me introduce myself. I am Ashley Davidson. I have volunteered to be the Cary City Meet Coordinator this season for our Porpoises! I am thrilled to work with all of you and create an amazing experience for our team during this event.
The Cary City Meet will be held on Saturday, July 12 (rain date is Sunday, July 13) at Cary Swim Club (near Cary High School). This meet is optional. Each team is expected to provide a certain number of volunteers (timers, kid pushers for clerk of course, stroke and turn judge, etc.). If you would like to sign up as a volunteer for this meet, please be aware you might need to volunteer for a short shift during a session. Volunteer credits are available.
This Unique Meet is focused on having FUN while swimming! Many teams have a theme for the meet and it is a really great atmosphere to be a part of. Every year the porpoises have shown up, former and current swimmers will tell you it has been a blast!
This is an extraordinary opportunity for your swimmer/s! As a team we will have a decorated tent to show our team spirit. We will compete against teams in TSA’s southern league (including teams we don’t normally compete against during the season).
Information on this year’s meet:
Morning session (10 and Under) starts at 8:15 AM with warm-ups at 7 AM.
Afternoon session (11 and Up) starts at 2:15 PM with warm-ups around 1:00 PM.
The cost to attend is $6 per individual event
- Maximum of two individual events for 6&U swimmers (freestyle and/or backstroke ONLY - there is no breaststroke option for 6&U at the Cary City Meet)
- 6&U need to be able to swim their stroke 25 yards without kid catcher
- Maximum of three individual event for 7+ swimmers
Swimmers may also indicate their interest in swimming relays. Coach Evan will decide the teams for the relays (not all swimmers will be able to swim relays). Coach Evan will handle the official registration for this meet. Once Coach Evan approves your swimmer’s events and enters them into the official meet, we will send a separate email prompting you to pay for your swimmer’s events in SwimTopia. Please do not pay for swim events until you get a confirmation from Coach Evan. If we are able to form relay teams, the team will cover the relay costs this year.

Now for the COOL Stuff!!
This year’s theme: “Flippers Unite!”
Our slogan: “Swim to the Beat with Happy Feet”
Description: Theme is based on the Happy Feet movie. We recommended if you haven’t seen it before. See Decor Inspirations below. We will also have a karaoke microphone and a dancing battery operated pad where kids can test their singing and dancing skills. We can also have mini competitions or sing along/dance along with other visitors from different neighborhood swim teams.
Volunteers to help with decorations:
We will dedicate some time after/before practices to have swimmers add their own flare to the tent (possibly make snowflakes, music notes, penguins, dolphins, etc.) More on this later. I love collaborating, so if you have any other ideas or things you would like to donate that would work with our team theme, I would love the help!
If you are a parent that would like to help. You are more than welcome to email me - [email protected]
