Park Village Swim Team Updates - Week of May 18th
Hi Porpoises!
This email contains updates for the week of May 18th.
Season Overview:
The season will run from the first practices on May 27th through the TSA Championship Meet on July 20th. The regular season consists of one Intrasquad Mock Meet (June 3rd) and six dual meets (3 home, 3 away) where we compete against neighborhoods of similar skill (based on last year’s results). The official meet schedule is here: https://parkvillage.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
We will also participate in two extra meets.
- The Cary City Meet, which will be held on Saturday, July 12th at Cary Swim Club (near Cary High School). This is a fun, outdoor meet where we decorate a tent to show team spirit and compete against teams in TSA’s southern league (including many teams we don’t normally compete against). Sign-ups for the Cary City Meet will begin in early June. The cost to attend is $6 per individual event (max of 2 individual events for 6 & under swimmers, and max of 3 individual events for swimmers ages 7+).
- The TSA Championship Meet, which will be held indoors at Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) on Sunday, July 20th. The TSA Championship Meet is open to all swimmers, but it is an especially great opportunity for swimmers who are possibly interested in swimming year-round or for those looking for one more chance to break a personal record. Sign-ups for TSA Champs will begin in early July. Cost has not been announced, but has historically been about the same as the Cary City Meet ($6/individual event, max of 2 events for 6&under swimmers, max of 3 events for 7+).
Swim Team Kick-Off:
This year’s Swim Team Kick-Off will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at 7pm at the clubhouse. We will give a brief presentation outlining what to expect this season, and we will have frozen treats for the swimmers. Representatives from the board and the coaching staff will be available to answer questions.
Important: For all swim team events, including the kick-off, there is NO PARKING on the north side of Park Village Drive. Once the parking lots are full, please park on the pool side (south side) of Park Village Drive only.
Meet Declaration:
By default, the SwimTopia system marks each swimmer as “undeclared” for each meet. Swimmers who are still “undeclared” at the deadline will not be permitted to swim at the meet. If you want your swimmer to participate in a meet, you must “declare” (commit) your swimmer for that meet no later than Friday at 11:59 pm preceding the Tuesday meet. Meet declaration is now open for all meets this season. Instructions for declaring your swimmer(s) are listed here: https://parkvillage.swimtopia.com/signup-instructions. Parents of younger swimmers who are new to the team may wish to wait until practices begin to talk to the coaches about their recommendations for your swimmer. The deadline to declare your swimmer (or make changes) for the Mock Meet is Friday, May 30th at 11:59pm. If you know your swimmer will not attend a meet, please mark them as “Not Attending” instead of leaving them undeclared.
Volunteer Roles Opening:
Volunteer roles for the Mock Meet and all six dual season meets will open on Wednesday, May 21st at 8pm.
Read more about volunteer roles here: https://parkvillage.swimtopia.com/volunteer-roles-and-sign-up
Instructions on how to sign up for volunteer roles are here (at the bottom of the page): https://parkvillage.swimtopia.com/signup-instructions
Nearly all volunteer positions require your full attention. Parents with small children should arrange to have another adult on deck supervising small children.
Volunteer Help Needed:
- We are still looking for someone to train as a timing administrator for home meets this season. Please let me know if you are interested in more information.
- Love party planning? Help us plan the end-of-season party! Reach out for more information.
Other Logistics:
- First practices are May 27th! Practice Schedule is here: https://parkvillage.swimtopia.com/practices
- Barring any delays, shirts and swim caps will be distributed at the mock meet on Tuesday, June 3rd.
- The 2025 Team Photo will be taken at the Mock Meet at 5pm. Swimmers attending the Mock Meet should plan to arrive by 4:45 so they can pick up their shirts for the team photo. We will do our best to finish the mock meet by 8-8:15 (likely by 7:30 for 6&U).
