PV Swim Team - Away Meet at Devereaux
Hello Porpoise Families!
Practice resumes Monday, June 10th! We can't wait to get back to the pool.
The rest of this email contains important information for our first away meet at Devereaux on Tuesday, June 11th!
For those new to the swim team, you can expect this meet to be longer than the mock meet. Your swimmers should have more time between events to socialize, visit the snack bar, etc. TSA describes dual meets as a "Party on the Pool Deck" minus the alcohol with gracious hosts and respectful guests. Most meets end between 9-9:30, but it depends on how many swimmers are participating, weather, technical issues, etc. 6&U swimmers are typically done by 8-8:30 unless swimming in the freestyle relay. Please check in with a coach before you leave the meet.
Location & Parking:
The Devereaux pool is located at: 500 Wakehurst Drive, Cary, NC 27519. If you enter from Jenks Carpenter Road, the pool will be straight ahead. There is limited parking in the parking lot, which is reserved for Park Village. Street parking is also available; however, it is only allowed on the pool side of the street. There will be no parking signs to indicate not to park on the opposite side of the street. Please do not park where you will block/restrict driveways.
Facility Information:
Devereaux has very limited pool deck space. If tents and chairs are brought, they will need to be set-up outside of the gated pool area. There is a very limited level, grassy space outside the pool area to set-up tents and chairs. Park Village swimmers can set up on the entry side/under the shade canopy. Please note that Devereaux has a 25 meter pool (the Park Village pool, and most other pools, are 25 yards). Times will be slightly longer due to the increased distance. For reference, 15m = 16.4yd, 25m = 27.34yd, 50m = 54.68yd. Devereaux has lights and can swim past dusk. Devereaux uses the Dolphin timing system which is the same system we used at the mock meet.
Concessions:
Devereaux offers concessions with nachos, pizza, fruit, chips, Gatorade, candy, and water. We use an electronic payment system, so please be aware that we accept cards and Google/Apple pay. No cash is accepted, so plan accordingly if you are planning to visit the concessions stand.
Arrival:
Swimmers should arrive at 5 p.m. and check in with the Swimmer Check-In volunteer. Any swimmer who does not check-in by 5:15 p.m. will be scratched from the meet. Our warm-up will begin promptly at 5:30.
T-Shirts/Caps:
Any swimmer who did not receive their shirt/cap at the mock meet may pick them up at practice on Monday (preferred). I will bring the rest of the shirts/caps to the Devereaux meet for any swimmer participating in the meet who has not yet picked up their shirt/cap so they will have the cap for the meet.
Team Suits:
I’ve been told that Kiefer Aquatics is out of several sizes of our team suits, and they are working hard to get them back in stock. If you cannot find a suit before Tuesday’s meet, please have your swimmer wear a different competition suit. No suits from different teams (including TAC, YOTA, RSA, MOR) may be worn due to TSA requirements. Additionally, your swimmer may wear the Park Village cap or any other solid color cap. No other logos (including TAC, UNC, etc) may be worn.
Porpoise Merchandise:
The team store has been updated. If you'd like a Porpoise shirt, you can order them online here or purchase them at concessions during a home meet.
General Meet Reminders:
1. If your swimmer is committed to the meet and cannot attend for any reason (including illness/injury), please email Coach Evan and me as soon as possible. The earlier we know that your swimmer will not attend, the sooner we can rearrange lane assignments/relays and complete the necessary paperwork associated with the deck change.
2. If you are signed up for a volunteer role and cannot attend for any reason, please email me as soon as possible so I can find a replacement.
3. TSA prohibits the consumption of alcohol during swim meets. Also, remember to follow all other pool rules (no smoking, no glass, etc).
As always, let me or Coach Evan know if you have any questions!
Kara
